The Nasionale Kinderteater ("National childres's theatre") was founded by Johan Bernard in 1968, funded by his mother. The company also included Johan Geyser (stage manager) and Lydia Theron (actress). They undertook a successful tour of the Transvaal towns with Bernard's translation of James Ambrose Brown's play Die Drie Wense ("The Three Wishes"), but then the funding was withdrawn by Mrs Bernard and the tour ended.
