| − | In 1933, The Netherlands celebrated the 400th anniversary of the birth of William of Orange. In the Orange Free State a contribution was made by two performances of the play ''[[Joan Woutersz]]'', written by the Dutch dramatist [[Hendrik Jan Schimmel]]. They took place in the [[Grand Theatre]] in Bloemfontein and the title role was played by Christiaan de Wet Marais, then associated with the [[Hanekom Toneelskool]], which had been established in 1932. The producer was Willem Frederik Mondriaan, a Dutch-born journalist and the brother of the great modernist painter Piet Mondriaan.
