Biography
He left South Africa under the Suppression of Communism Act of 1950.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
As an actor he played the Fox in Volpone staged by the Johannesburg Art Theatre at the Jewish Guild in the 1930s and Andrew Undershaft in Major Barbara in 1940.
He played Joseph in a radio broadcast of the Coventry Nativity Play, 25 December 1942.
He worked for the Garment Worker’s Union but was also active in experimental theatre in Johannesburg in the 1930s, strongly influenced by the theories and practices of Meyerhold [2].
He wrote two plays for the Bantu People's Theatre (BPT) group, namely The Word and the Act and Patriot's Pie – both performed at the BPT Drama Festival in 1941.
