Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He worked for the Garment Worker’s Union but was also active in experimental theatre in Johannesburg in the 1930s, strongly influenced by the theories and practices of Meyerhold [2].
He wrote two plays for the Bantu People's Theatre group, namely The Word and the Act and Patriot's Pie – both performed at the BPT Drama Festival in 1941.
He was involved with the formation of the African National Theatre? Was later to leave the country under the Suppression of Communism Act of 1950.
