The Reddingsdaadbond or RDB (literally "The rescue act alliance") was an Afrikaner support society.
It was founded by J.D. Kestell on 8 December 1939 for the economic rehabilitation of the poor white Afrikaners after the great depression. Though the problem of poverty was largely alleviated by the end of the 1930s, the organization y continued in existence till 1957. It gradually expanded its activities to support Afrikaans economic, cultural and other aspirations.
Contribution to the performing arts
In the 1940s the RDB supported the theatre companies of Hendrik Hanekom (enabling him to put on productions of Oom Paul and Hans-die-Skipper ), Siegfried Mynhardt (to found a company and produce Die Rooi Pruik) and Louis de Vriendt (to tour South Africa with plays such as Die Dodelike Kus).
They also supported the founding and activities of the Reddingsdaadbond-Amateurrolprentorganisasie or Raro (an amateur film organization, founded in 1940).
