James Lodge (1915-1995). Journalist and dramatist.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
After working full-time as a journalist and editor with first the Pretoria News and then the Cape Argus, Lodge was once considered a very promising writer on the strength especially of his four full-length plays, Andromeda, Earthquake, Strawberry Love and Investigation into the Death of a Greek. However, having written these when already in retirement, he never quite fulfilled his promise. He is also the author of two one-act plays: Have a Heart, Mrs. Dove! (1970) and The Frightened King (1970).
