Cockpit ( produced 1948, included in Plays of the Year 1, 1949) by Irish-British sceenwriter, playwright and novelist Bridget Boland (1913-1988).
Performance history in South Africa
1949: First staged in South Africa at the Little Theatre, Cape Town in May 1949, directed by Leonard Schach for the UCT Dramatic Society. Decor was by Cecil Pym and it starred Nigel Hawthorne, Peter Lamsley, Job Stewart, Laurie van der Merwe.
The name of the “Cockpit Players” derives from this production.
1952: Presented by the University of Stellenbosch Speech Training Department at the D.S. Botha Hall, produced by Wilma Stockenström and Limpie Basson under the direction of Robert Mohr, 16-18 June 1952.
