Born in Doornfontein, spent part of his life in the USA.
Contribution to South African Theatre, Film,Media and Performance
In the 1970-1980s he was the leader of the SADF Entertainment Corps's band, more familiarly referred to as George Hayden's Big Band, and became a familiar presence on radio. The Entertainment Corps existed to provide the military ... The main band, known as the George Hayden Big Band, which consisted of 30 musicians were mostly recruited from the South African permanent force members, and performed in the style of Glen Miller. He also accompanied and did arrangements for numerous local and isiting singers and cabaret artists.
He wrote and conducted the music for the musical Bo Jungle, to a libretto by the writer/producer Bertha Egnos, in 1959.
