Pippin is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (1948-)[1] and a book by Roger O. Hirson (1926-)[2].

The original text

The work was originally conceived and performed as a student musical titled Pippin, Pippin and performed by Carnegie Mellon University's Scotch'n'Soda theatre troupe.

Reworked by Stephen Schwartz, one of the original authors, and playwright Roger O. Hirson, with some additions to the libretto by Bob Fosse, who directed and choreographed the original Broadway production that opened at the Imperial Theater on October 23, 1972 and closing on June 12, 1977 after 1,944 performances.
