Alf Stodel (1904-1985) was a theatrical entrepreneur and impressario.

Biography

Born Alfred Henry Stodel he was the son of Harry Stodel.


Contribution to South African theatre, film, media and performance

Like the entire family, he worked for I.W. Schlesinger’s African Theatres Trust from the very beginning, becoming General Manager of the later African Consolidated Theatres in 1951.

In this capacity he was responsible for providing a wealth of entertainment from grand opera to films and musicals, Christmas pantomimes and wartime charitable productions. Brought numerous international stars to the country including Danny Kaye, Tito Gobbi, Gracie Fields, and Marcel Marceau.
