Le Désespoir de Jocrisse is a prose comédie-folie in two acts by Dorvigny (nom de plume of Louis-François Archambault, 1742-1812)[1].

The original text
The original French play was first performed in Paris at the Théâtre Montansier, on 22 November 1792. Published by Cailleau, Paris in 1793.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch as De Wanhoop van Jocrisse by Hendrik Ogelwight (Junior)[2] and published in Gend by J. F. Vander Schueren, 1790(?) and in Amsterdam by Pieter Johannes Uylenbroek in 1798
Performance history in South Africa
1815: The Dutch version performed in Cape Town on 26 September as De Wanhoop van Jocrisse by Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense, followed by Eerzucht en Behoefte, of De Huwelyksscheiding uit Liefde (von Kotzebue/Patrat; tr Kup).
