De Vaderlandsche Boer ("the patriotic farmer") is a one act comedy by Arie Lamme (1748-1801)[1]

The original text

According to Worp (cited by Bosman, 1928: p. 111) the play was apparently written on the occasion of the capitulation of the English and Germans forces in Northern Holland and was well received by the Nederlandsch Liefhebbery Toneel ("Dutch amateur theatre") at the time.

The text was published in Den Haag in 1800.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

Though no record of a performance, copies of the play were sold (and possibly printed) in Cape Town by the Printer A. Richert in 1809.
