His stage production of A Lesson from Aloes was staged Upstairs at the Market in 1980, after having played to full houses at London's National Theatre.
He worked with Athol Fugard, directing three films with scripts by Fugard: Narigolds in August, The Guest and Boesman and Lena. He also made a film with a script by Nadine Gordimer, City Lovers.
Awards, etc
Marigolds in August was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1980.
