It is a later adaptation of Betterton's ''[[Amorous Widow]]'', which in turn was adapted from Moliere's ''[[George Dandin]]''.  First performed in this form at the Theatre-Royal, Covent-Garden. Published in London by  G. Kearsly, 1782.
