Le Commissionnaire ("The commissioner") is a melodrama in 3 acts by Ferdinand Laloue (1794–1850)[1]and Constant Ménissier (1793-1878)[2].

Original text

First performed in Paris at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin, on the 10th of June, 1824, with music by M. Alexandre and ballet by M. Aniel. First published in French in Paris by Pollet, 1824.

Translations

Translated into Dutch as De Boodschaplooper Uit Behoefte (lit "The messenger out of need") by an anonymous translator. Published in Amsterdam by Marten Westerman en Coenraad van Hulst, 1824.

Performances in South Africa

1826: Performed in Dutch (as De Boodschaplooper Uit Behoefte) in the African Theatre by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 11 November 1926, with a popular comedy, De Burgerraad (Anon.), as afterpiece.
