J. Nel van der Merwe (19*-) was an Afrikaans radio announcer, writer and dramatist.

He was the first presenter of Afrikaans broadcasts of Radio Nederland Wêreldomroep in 1949.

Besides two collections of poetry, Van mens tot mens ("From person to person", 1941) and Bloedrivier is breed ("Blood River is broad", 1956), he also published a number of prose works, including Beroemde Liefdesterhale ("Famous love stories", 1945) Onder Vreemde Sterre ("Under strange/foreign stars", a book on European travels)

Among his plays, are En Sy Naam is Jannie (produced by K.A.T., 1940), Ai, Die Liewe Martha! ("Oh, The Dear Martha!"), produced by NTO in 1957, and a some works for children, including My Liewe Kokkennennetjie (1949), .
