The Ball at the Castle is a play by Joan Bright.


The original text

It is a play about Lady Anne Barnard, it was a runner-up in the competition for original plays written for The Van Riebeeck Festival[1] in 1952.


South African performances

1952: First produced by National Theatre Organisation in association with the Unversity of Cape Town, as part of the Festival, being performed in the courtyard of the Castle in Cape Town (17 to 22 March). Directed by Gwen ffrangçon-Davies, who also appeared in the role of Lady Anne Barnard. Other performers included Mathilde Hanekom and Michael Drin.
