She is married to film-maker Herman Binge. Their son, Ludwig Binge, is also an actor.

Joanie studied at Akademie vir Dramakuns.
Career
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
She had roles in Die Uurwerk Kantel, (Woordfees, 2003), Eet Alles (Aardklop festival, 2004). Other productions include Susanna die Geliefde, Yerma, The Boy Friend, Op Dees Aarde, Jong Dames Dinamiet, Ou Blare.
She was seen in the film Tornado (2009) and on television in productions such as Manakwalanners.
