 Vivian died as the result of a car accident in April 1984. It was alleged that he wasn't properly attended to in hospital as attempts were first made to establish his race.

 He starred in [[Barney Simon]]’s production of [[Athol Fugard]]’s ''[[Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act]]'' with [[Wilma Stockenström]] at the [[Market Theatre]] in 1979,  and in 1981 did [[Adam Small]]'s ''[[Kanna hy kô Hystoe]]'' with [[Wilna Snyman]] and ''[[Die Koopman van Venesië]]'' for [[PACT]],  both in the [[State Theatre]] – 1981.
