Trio Films was a short-lived film production company formed by Aletta Gericke, Truida Louw and Renée van der Walt. With few resources but great enthusiasm, they produced two feature films, Man in die Donker (1962) and Huis op Horings (1963). The first was a thriller starring Babs Laker, Dawid van der Walt and Cor Nortjé, while the second was a comedy with Anna Neethling-Pohl, Dawid van der Walt and Jan Bruyns. The casts of both of films came from the stage and both were written and directed by Truida Louw (under her maiden name of Truida Pohl). The second film had further contributions from other members of the Pohl family. Actress Anna Neethling-Pohl was Truida Pohl’s sister and composer Jan Pohl was her brother. Truida was married to the Afrikaans poet and dramatist N.P. van Wyk Louw. To the best of our knowledge these films were the first South African productions to have been directed by a woman and certainly Trio Films was unique in that it was formed and controlled by women.<br />
