''The Black Mikado''. An adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, set on a Caribbean island, with the book by Janos Bajtala, George Larnyoh, Eddie Quansah. It opened in London in 1975 and after finishing its West End season, it toured the provincial cities. [[Des Lindberg|Des]] and [[Dawn Lindberg]] opened their production of this musical at the [[Diepkloof Hall]] in Soweto on 13 May 1976. It went on to play in Coronationville and at the [[Loreto Convent]] in Pretoria, Pietersburg, Pietermaritzburg and Durban’s [[Lyric Theatre]] before opening at the [[Brooke Theatre|Brooke]] on 29 July 1976.

 It was the first West End musical to premiere in Soweto.
