[[T. Coughlin]] was a sergeant in the [[North Lincolnshire Regiment of Foot]] when the Regiment was sent to the Eastern Frontier of the Cape Colony (now the Eastern Province, South Africa) between 1860 and 1862 during the Frontier War. The regiment was based in Grahamstown and Keiskama Hoek. (Modern spelling: Keiskammahoek.)

He held the rank of sergeant when he arrived in the Cape Colony.

Sergeant [[T. Coughlin]] acted in five productions during his stay in the Eastern Frontier.

[[T. Coughlin]] was a member of the Dramatic Club, and performed once with the [[Officers of the Regiment]], three times with [[The Sergeants]] and once with the [[Amateurs of the Band]].
