He worked as a film editor, assistant producer and director of children's television programmes for the SABC, before moving to English Drama Department in 1982. His productions there include [[Simon Gray]] plays ''[[Man in a Side Car]]'' and ''[[Death of a Teddy Bear]]'' and, most recently, [[Athol Fugard]]'s ''[[A Lesson from the Aloes]]'' which is scheduled for transmission early in July. Following his departure from the SABC towards the end of last year (as a Senior Producer) he directed ''[[Inspector Carr Investigates]]''. This thirteen-part "who-dunnit" series, starring [[Michael McCabe]], will also be transmitted later this year. Peter has long wanted to work in the theatre and his new freedom as a freelancer now permits this. He was delighted when [[Pieter Toerien]] asked him to direct ''[[My Astonishing Self]]''. This is not a solitary foray into the theatre as Peter will be co-producing and directing David Mamet's Modern American classic ''[[American Buffalo]]'' at the [[Baxter Studio Theatre]], after shooting a TV series derived from a [[Michael Silver]] Springbok Radio favourite ''[[Consider Your Verdict]]''. Peter is known as a film critic to readers of the Weekly Mail, and has also reviewed for the Financial Mail, the Rand Daily Mail, Frontline and The Star. He won the [[Pringle Prize]] for his reviewing in 1980.'
