 [[Pauline van Zyl]] was very interested in acting right from her childhood and while studying at the Technical College in East London, she took extra-curricular, year-long course in acting and later participated in [[Paul Malherbe]] and [[Pieter Bredenkamp]]'s short directing courses. She acted in [[Uys Krige]]'s play [[Die Arrestasie]] (The Arrest), a comedy about the governorship of Willem Adriaan van der Stel, which Uys directed and which was presented by the College.
