Since no reference to an author by this name has yet been found in [[Dutch]] sources, Van de Velde '''may''' have been a Cape Town resident ''circa'' the 1860s and 1870s, and in that case probably a member of ''[[Aurora II]]'', the society that first performed his texts in Cape Town.

[[F.C.L. Bosman]] (1980) credits him as the author of a the [[Dutch]] tragedy '''''[[De Oudste Zoon]]''''' ('the eldest son") (read by Aurora II in 1868 and the translator of a French play by Scribe and Delavigne called ''[[L'Héritière]]'' (1834), as '''''[[Het Testament]]''''' ("the will").
