The [[Nozincwadi Books and Story Festival]] is a project aimed at promoting literacy and reading, first begun and run by actress and storyteller [[Gcina Mhlophe]] in 2001, under the auspices of her foundation, the [[Gcinamasiko Arts and Heritage Trust]]. Since its inception in 2001 Nozincwadi The festival has travelled to the most remote areas of the country, particulkarly in Kwazulu-Natal.

The aims and objectives are to instil the pleasure of reading in people; to revive the art of storytelling and encourage and promote its role in modern society; to endorse the work of South African and African authors; and ultimately to encourage young people to start creating their own stories and their own books, so they can have a say in the future of writing and reading in the country.

A primary thrust of the project is the distribution of books within communities that otherwise would have no access to reading materials.
