He grew up in Zimbabwe where he made his first stage appearance at 14.

He trained as a radio announcer.

=== Career ===
He joined the [[SABC]], working as a freelance and acting in radio drama. He was [[SABC]]'s first English-speaking newsreader.

In the glory days of [[Springbok Radio]] in the mid-sixties, Kane used to write ''Squad Cars'' and a series called ''Bear With Me''.

Following the death of his wife, he spent a year abroad and then returned to work at Napac with Murray McGibbon, performing in a variety of Napac productions including ''[[Amadeus]]'', ''[[Romeo and Juliet]]'' and ''[[The Doctor's Dilemma]]''.

==Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance==
Back in the late seventies he appeared in a couple of Agatha Christie thrillers for [[Pieter Toerien]] and played "Old Capulet" in [[NAPAC]]'s ''[[Romeo and Juliet]]''.

''[[The Importance of Being Earnest]]'' (in 1959 he played "Merriman", the elderly butler; "as "Reverend Chasuble", 2001)

In 1960 he produced ''[[Romanoff and Juliet]]'' presented by the UCT Dramatic Society at The [[Little Theatre]].
