Nell van der Merwe obtained a BA Hons Drama (cum laude) in 2018 from the [[University of Pretoria]] (UP) and specialises in theatre direction and digital media. She obtained a MA Drama (cum laude) in 2022 from the UP, which allowed her to further develop her interest and study of magical realism as a theatre genre. She obtained an MA (cum laude) in theatre creation and – direction from the [[University of Cape Town]] in 2023.

==Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance==

''[[Dryfhout]]'' was written as part of her studies and was presented at [[Teksmark 2023]]. She has been working as a freelance artist in various aspects of the entertainment industry since 2017. Her exam piece, ''[[Op Soek na Salem]]'', debuted at the [[Toyota US Woordfees]] Fringe in October 2023.
