Matriculated at Marist Brothers’ college, Durban and then studied Graphic adesign at Durban Technikon. After a year working as an artist he went into music. He formed the bands Neill Solomon and the Uptown Rhythm Dogs, Neill Solomon’s Bazaar and Neill Solomon and the Passengers.

In 1985 he joined the [[Loft Theatre Company]][ with [[Nicholas Ellenbogen]], performing in a number of Nicholas’s plays.
