A lieutenant in the Madras Cavalry, possibly in Cape Town on leave from India. He spent the year, then left for England due to ill-health.

==Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance==

He and [[Captain Frazer]], as seniors, apparently led the revival of theatre by the [[Officers of the Garrison]], under the banner name "[[All the World's a Stage]]", in 1807.

He acted as manager for the [[Officers of the Garrison]] for their first number of performances in the [[African Theatre]] in 1807. Besides reading a prologue written by [[Captain Frazer]] (in the character of "the Manager", 20 June 1897) and a prologue and an epilogue by [[Captain Collins]] (the latter in the character of "Lady Dove", on 10 October, 1807), he also played a number of comic roles including "Hardcastle" in ''[[She Stoops to Conquer]]'', "Puff" in ''[[Taste]]'', "Douglas" in ''[[The Tragedy of Douglas]]'', "Jerry Sneak" in ''[[The Mayor of Garratt]]'', "Sir Gilbert Pumpkin" in ''[[All the World's a Stage]]'', "Old Testy" in ''[[Abroad and At Home]]'', Lady Dove" in ''[[The Brothers]]'', as well as "Scrub", "Sir Anthony", "the Quaker" and "Norval" in the other plays.
