He arrived in Cape Town in 1834 and while there undertook to stage a performance, with the help of local [[Amateur|amateurs]] (most probably members of [[All the World's a Stage]]). The plays done on 30 November, 1834 were ''[[Venice Preserved]]'' (Otway) and ''[[Charles the Second]]'' (Payne).
