Graduated from Trinity College of Music, London.

Since graduating he has been connected with television, repertory theatre and televison in Britain. As a professor and examiner for Trinity College nhe travelled a world, including a visit to South Africa in 1965. In February 1966 he took up an appointment as Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Cape Town.
