"MM..." represented Auguste (pseud. for the baron Auguste François Creuzé de Lesser) and baron Jean François Roger. In some editions the name of M. de Favières (Edmé-Guillaume-François de Favières) is also added to the list of authors.

First performed in Paris at the Théâtre Royal del Opéra-Comique by Les Comédiens ordinaires du Roi on 29 June, 1813. Published in Paris by J.N. Barba, 1815, printed by François Hocquet.

Translated into [[Dutch]] as ''[[De Nieuwe Landheer, of De Gewaande Marquis]]'', a comedy with music ("blijspel met muziek") by Martinus Gerardus Engelman. First published in Amsterdam by Van Kesteren in 1819.
