== Original text ==

A play about [[Jan van Riebeeck]], the founding father of the [[Dutch]] settlement in the Cape in 1652. The play was joint winner of the [[Afrikaans]] section of the inaugural [[Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society]] (KMDOS) playwriting competition in 1932 (with ''[[Hantie kom Huistoe]]'' by [[P.W.S. Schumann]].)

There was some controversy about the award, since the text had apparently first been written in English, though no record has been found of that text. Published in [[Afrikaans]] by Van Schaik in 1933, reprinted 1935.

First produced by KMDOS on 14, 16 and 18 November, 1932 with [[P.P.B. Breytenbach]] as "Van Riebeeck".
