(Real name Sydney Harold Skaife) (1889-1976) A world renowned entomologist with main research interest in social insects. He was also a school inspector, author, broadcaster, and conservationist. Of his many achievements his greatest was probably his leading role in the creation of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Lived most of his life in Hout Bay on the Cape Peninsula. Wrote [[Afrikaans]] stories for light entertainment under the pseudonym '''Hendrik Brand'''. These include ''[[Die Swart Hand]]'' ("The Black Hand", a serial detective novel, adapted to the stage by Brand and [[André Huguenet]] and taken on tour by the [[André Huguenet Company]] in 1934), and a play called '' [[Die Skerpioen]]'' ("The Scorpion"). Recorded on records by the [[SABC]] as ''[[Tamboere in die Nag]]'', starring the [[Hanekom Company]], directed by [[André Huguenet]].
