		+	He joined [[CAPAB]]'s Ballet Company in 1984 and danced in their productions of ''[[Giselle]]'', ''[[Spartacus]]'', ''[[Coppelia]]'' and ''[[Romeo and Juliet]]''. In July of that year he was called up for National Service working in army public relations; he also danced in SADF galas and played the French horn for the Light Horse Band.

+Quoted from the programme of [[Pieter Toerien]]'s ''[[Snake Beneath the Rose]]'' in 1986: 'Gavin started ballet training at the age of 10 under the tutilage of [[Trevor Dodd]], and later with Ivy Conmee. At 14 he entered the Johannesburg School for Art, Ballet and Music under [[Marjorie Sturman]], [[Ruth Inglestone]] and [[Josie Pretorius]]. Matriculating in 1977 with a distinction in practical ballet, he studied architecture at Wits University, graduating with a BA in the subject in 1983. He maintained his interest in dance during the academic period, dancing The Poet in ''[[Les Sylphides]]'' and achieving excellent results in ballet exams and competitions under the coaching of Ruth Inglestone. Gavin is presently doing his Masters Degree in Urban Design and appearing in television productions.
