He was a member of the company of players recruited in England and brought to South Africa by  [[Henry Harper]] in 1884. In Harper's opening production in the newly built [[Theatre Royal]] in Cape Town, he played &amp;quot;Charles Verner&amp;quot; in ''[[Faces in the Fire]]'' and &amp;quot;John Bull&amp;quot; in ''[[The Two Gregories]]'' (Dibdin). He presumably played other roles in the rest of the season.&lt;br /&gt;
