==Founding, function and history==

The [[East London Schools Music and Drama Association]] was established circa 1941. The association was involved in providing local theatre entertainment in the city. The association had 23 member-schools, and held an annual Festival and Youth Week in collaboration with the East London Rotary Club.

In the early 1950's, they were joined by the [[Dramatic Society of East London]], the [[Music and Variety Club]], [[East London Technical College Drama Club]] and the [[Children’s Theatre]] to raise funds toward the building of what was to be the [[Guild Theatre]].
