David Alan Yates was a senior stage director for live theatre and a specialist floor manager and autocue operator for television.

In 2001 [[David Yates]] was Senior Stage Manager for [[Grease the Stadium Spectacular]] at the Johannesburg Stadium and during 2002 to 2003 he was appointed as Head of Department: Stage Management and Stage Director for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2003 Opening Ceremony in Cape Town, including over 50 Stage Managers and a cast of over 4,500 members.
He worked at the SABC for 14 years and later as a television freelancer for another 14 years on shows such as the SABC evening news, [[Good Morning South Africa]], 20 [[Miss South Africa Pageants[[, two [[Miss Malika]] pageants, eight [[Artes Awards]], one [[Mr World]] pageant and five [[Miss World]] pageants.
Other large shows include, [[S.A. Games Opening Ceremony]], three [[National Song Festival]]s, five [[Kora Music Award]] ceremonies, four [[Huisgenoot Skouspel[[, as well as many [[OKTV]] and [[SAMA Music Awards]], the [[Vita Awards]], two [[Cricket South Africa Awards]], [[Vita Awards]], [[Jakaranda Pops]], [[Jukebox]], [[Soundcheck]], and [[Miss Teen]] pageants.
He also worked on international transmissions including M-Net’s Egypt launch [[Sun, Moon and Stars]] in Cairo, [[URTNA Awards]] in Nairobi, [[Pan African Broadcasting Heritage Awards]] in Abuja, Nigeria, [[Nelson Mandela]] and [[Thabo Mbeki]]’s inaugurations as President of South Africa, the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II in South Africa, live transmission of Pope John Paul II’s Holy Mass in South Africa and [[Paverotti in Concert]] in Stellenbosch.
