Born Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury on 11 February, 1930 in Madras, India, he became a renowned an Indian actor and dancer under the name [[Bhaskar]], and after a stage accident that crippled him, turned to painting as a career.

He died on 4 August, 2003 in New York City.

[[Bhaskar]] visited South Africa in 1961 when [[Union Artists]] brought the Indian director [[Krishna Shah]] out to remount ''[[The King of the Dark Chamber]]'' with himself, the renowned actress [[Suryakumari]] and students of [[AMDA]]. The production opened in Durban before playing at the [[Wits Great Hall]] - in both cases to acclaim.
