The show premiered at Actors' Gang Theatre in Culver City, California in 1997. The musical opened off-Broadway at the Union Square Theatre on March 21, 2001, and closed on December 2, 2001.<br /> <br /> ==Translations and adaptations==<br /> <br /> The 2013 production was placed in the South African context, bringing the show's themes of prejudice and tolerance, discrimination and acceptance into stark relief.
