In 1986 joined the Loft Theatre Company in Durban as actor. Among the 20 odd plays he did for them are Kwamanzi, Royal Hunt of the Sun, Richard II, Hamlet, Rosencranz and Guildernstern are Dead, Jo'burg Sis, Normal Heart, Present Laughter, and A Flea in her Ear. In 1989-1990 he studied mime at L'Ecole de Jaques le Coq in Paris.  After spending some time with Eternia Dance Theater of Sweden, he returned to Durban in 1991 to begin his own company and produce his own plays.
