Established in 1911 when the [[Tivoli Company]] (owning a number of Tivoli picture houses in and around Johannesburg)combined with [[Union Bioscope Company]], which owned the [[Vaudette]] chain of theatres to form [[Africa’s Amalgamated Theatres]].

In April 1913, the company was bought out along with a number of companies including the [[Empire Theatres Company]] by [[I.W. Schlesinger]] and [[A.H. Stodel]] ([[Harry Stodel]]) to form [[African Theatres Trust]].
