Developed as a community project to be staged at the [[KKNK]] in 2003, sponsored by a local Oudsthoorn farmer with the proviso that they had to promote and tell stories about the ostrich industry. Under the leadership of [[Hennie van Greunen]] general auditions were held in the Oudsthoorn "Coloured" community and a group of eleven amateur actors/singers were selected. Van Greunen created the play based on legends and stories told him by local storytellers like David Piedt, Poem Mooney, Johan van Greunen and others.

== Performance history in South Africa ==
First staged at the [[KKNK]] in April 2003, directed by [[Hennie van Greunen]], with eleven amateur actors/singers, music by [[Leonore Bredenkamp]] and choreography by [[Mark Hoeben]]. The same production was staged at [[Aardklop]] in September 2003.
