''[[Une Heure de Prison, ou La Lettre de Recommandation]]'' ("An hour in prison, or the letter of recommendation") is a comedy in two acts ("comédie en 2 actes, mêlée de couplets") by  Sewrin (Charles-Augustin de Bassompierre), Théophile Marion Dumersan et Jean Toussaint Merle.

According to some sources this play was first created and performed at the Thêàtre des Variétés, Paris, on 24 July 1811. The published in a first edition by Barba (1811) as a “comédie en 2 actes, mêlée de couplets”.

Adapted into [[Dutch]] as '''''[[Een Uur Achter Slot, of De Brief van Aanbeveling]]''''', a two-act comedy (" blyspel met zang in twee bedrijven") by  J. C. Honig. The Dutch version published in Amsterdam by A. Mars, 1813.

== Performances in South Africa ==

1849: Performed in [[Dutch]] in Cape Town by [[Tot Nut en Vermaak en Door Yver Vruchtbaar]] on 27 July, with ''[[De Lauwerkrans, of Het Gezag der Wetten]]'' (Ziegler).
