[[J. Nel van der Merwe]] (19*-) was an Afrikaans radio announcer, writer and dramatist.  

He was the first presenter of [[Afrikaans]] broadcasts of ''Radio Nederland Wêreldomroep'' in 1949. 

Besides two collections of poetry, ''Van mens tot mens'' ("From person to person", 1941) and ''Bloedrivier is breed '' ("Blood River is broad", 1956), he also published a number of prose works, including ''Beroemde Liefdesterhale'' ("Famous love stories", 1945) ''Onder Vreemde Sterre'' ("Under strange/foreign stars", a book on European travels) 

==Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance==
Among his plays are ''[[En Sy Naam is Jannie]]'' (produced by [[K.A.T.]], 1940), ''[[Ai, Die Liewe Martha!]]'' ("Oh, The Dear Martha!"), produced by [[NTO]] in 1957, and some works for children, including ''[[My Liewe Kokkennennetjie]]'' (1949).
