First performed at Covent Garden in October 1801, with an Epilogue by Mr. Serjeant Sellon.

First printed in London by A. Strahan for T.N. Longman and O. Rees, 1802.

== Performance history in South Africa ==

1815: Announced for performance in the [[African Theatre]], Cape Town by the [[Garrison Players]] on 7 October,  with as afterpiece ''[[No Song, No Supper]]'' (Hoare), but postponed to  14 October. 

1817: Announced for performance in the [[African Theatre]], Cape Town by the [[Garrison Players]] on 16 August,  with as afterpiece ''[[The Adopted Child]]'' (Birch), but this never took place.  

1823: Performed in the [[African Theatre]], Cape Town by the [[Garrison Players]] on 27 September, with ''[[The Day After the Wedding, or A Wife’s First Lesson|The Day After The Wedding]]'' (Kemble) as afterpiece.
