White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage (1996)
The draft White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage published by the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology in Pretoria on 4 June 1996 set out government policy for establishing the optimum funding arrangements and institutional frameworks for the creation, promotion and protection of South African arts, culture, heritage and the associated practitioners. It was formally adopted by Cabinet in August 1996.
This paper led to the founding of the National Arts Council of South Africa
