Salzburg Marionette Theatre (Salzburger Marionettentheater) is an Austrian theatre established in 1913 by Anton Aicher (1859-1930), artist and sculptor. Nicknamed the “Puppets of Mozart”, the Salzburger Marionettentheater were famous for their performances of Mozart’s operas, of which the first was Bastien und Bastienne (Bastien and Bastienne), performed in 1913. The Salzburger Marionettentheater has, since 1971, been located in one of the halls of the Baroque Theatre next door to the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Performace history in South Africa

The Salzburg Marionette Theatre toured South Africa in 1968, 1970 and 1973 performing at venues around South Africa, including the Civic Theatre in Johannesburg and the Bloemfontein City Hall.
