Die Totempaal ("The totem pole") is a play by Sheugnet Buys (1935-)

The original text
The play is her own adaptation of her novel of the same title, telling of a girl's struggles when confronted with the need to cope with the harsh reality of adulthood and love when she discovers her mother in bed with a lover.
The play was a finalist for the Amstel Playwright of the Year Award in 1991.
